A few years ago we made a family trip to Whittier (highly recommended if you are visiting Alaska) It's a stunning town completely enclosed by mountains and glaciers. In face the town was built in complete secret durring World War II so that is could be the port furthest north in the country that was open year round. The only way to reach it is by tunnel or boat.
