A New Icon for Matushka Olga in Kwethluk
Every holy icon contains its own unique story, and the new icon of Matushka Olga is no exception. During the canonization services in Kwethluk Alaska, this special icon was presented to the parish by His Grace, Archbishop Alexei of Sitka and Alaska.
What makes this icon especially moving is its inscription: it bears words in both traditional Yup’ik and English, beautifully reflecting Matushka Olga’s identity as a true mother of her people and a bridge of love between cultures.
In the icon, she is shown holding a great log cathedral—a vision of faith and hope. By the blessing of His Grace, plans are already underway for such a cathedral to be built in Kwethluk, standing as a lasting witness to Orthodoxy’s deep roots in Alaska and to Matushka Olga’s gentle intercession.
