To produce a pound of honey , a bee must tap into two million flowers. Honey bees must fly over 55,000 miles to produce one pound of honey. Beeswax FactsIt takes a lot just to produce 1lb. of wax! Bees produce beeswax in small scales. It is estimated that the bees must consume about 17lb. of honey and produce approximately 500,000 scales to come up with just that one lb. of wax. Busy bee! Invented?Bees have a handle on air conditioning! When the hive is in danger of overheating, select bees bring back water and dribble it around. Then they all gather at one end and flap their wings in the same direction, thereby cooling the hive down. Honey MoonFermented honey, known as Mead, is the most ancient fermented beverage. The term "honey moon" originated with the Viking practice of consuming large quantities of Mead during the first month of a marriage. |
They are made the old fashioned way in our candle shop, by dipping them over and over again, into a large vat filled with hot aromatic beeswax. When we are dipping the whole shop is filled with the scent of honey. |
